Regional Conference, Amman-Jordan
During the first week of July 2004, some 150 educators from 18 countries will convene in Amman, Jordan to promote cross-cultural education through student-centred learning projects. Under the auspices of the Jordanian Ministry of Education, the conference will be hosted by iEARN-Jordan in partnership with iEARN-USA, and in cooperation with iEARN country programs around the world. The enthusiasm for face-to-face meetings among BRIDGE participants is very high and previous BRIDGE and CIVICS regional conferences in Egypt have motivated countries new to iEARN to become more deeply engaged.
The conference will showcase new
partnerships, new classroom tools, and the educators and students who
developed these resources. Several U.S. educators will travel to Jordan
to participate in the five-day event, which will feature visits to
Jordanian schools, workshops, cultural activities, and a community
service-learning activity.
Presenters at the conference
will illustrate iEARN programs through a series of workshops that
demonstrate youth empowerment through projects in environmental
sciences, social studies, arts, language arts, and mathematics. In
addition, iEARN will
conduct a three-day train-the-trainer workshop before the conference to
expand the number of BRIDGE educator-trainers available in the future. The conference’s objectives are to:
